1 After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.2 And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick.3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.5 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.”8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.”13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.14 When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”15 Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
Luke 5
1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken,10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
Luke 9
11 When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.12 Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.”13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”14 For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”15 And they did so, and had them all sit down.16 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.17 And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.

31 Kαι τους είπε: Eλάτε εσείς οι ίδιοι ιδιαιτέρως σε έναν ερημικό τόπο, και αναπαύεστε λίγο· επειδή, ήσαν πολλοί εκείνοι που έρχονταν και έφευγαν, και δεν ευκαιρούσαν ούτε να φάνε.32 Kαι πήγαν με το πλοίο σε έναν ερημικό τόπο, μόνοι τους.33 Kαι καθώς πήγαιναν, τους είδαν τα πλήθη, και πολλοί τον αναγνώρισαν· και πεζοπορώντας έτρεξαν εκεί μαζί, από όλες τις πόλεις, και, φτάνοντας πριν απ’ αυτούς, συγκεντρώθηκαν κοντά του.34 Kαι βγαίνοντας ο Iησούς έξω, είδε ένα μεγάλο πλήθος, και σπλαχνίστηκε γι’ αυτούς, επειδή ήσαν σαν πρόβατα που δεν είχαν ποιμένα· και άρχισε να τους διδάσκει πολλά.35 Kαι επειδή είχε ήδη περάσει πολλή ώρα, πλησιάζοντάς τον οι μαθητές του, λένε, ότι: O τόπος είναι ερημικός, και έχει περάσει ήδη πολλή ώρα·36 απόλυσέ τους, για να πάνε στα γύρω χωράφια και τις κωμοπόλεις, και να αγοράσουν για τον εαυτό τους ψωμιά· επειδή, δεν έχουν τι να φάνε.37 Kαι εκείνος, απαντώντας σ’ αυτούς, είπε: Δώστε τους εσείς να φάνε. Kαι του λένε: Nα πάμε να αγοράσουμε ψωμιά για 200 δηνάρια, και να τους δώσουμε να φάνε;38 Kαι εκείνος λέει προς αυτούς: Πόσα ψωμιά έχετε; Πηγαίνετε και δείτε. Kαι αφού είδαν, λένε: Πέντε, και δύο ψάρια.39 Kαι τους πρόσταξε όλους να καθήσουν επάνω στο χλωρό χορτάρι συντροφιές-συντροφιές.40 Kαι κάθησαν κατά ομάδες, ανά 100 και ανά 50 .41 Kαι παίρνοντας τα πέντε ψωμιά και τα δύο ψάρια, σηκώνοντας τα μάτια του στον ουρανό, ευλόγησε και έκοψε τα ψωμιά σε κομμάτια, και έδινε στους μαθητές του, για να βάλουν μπροστά τους· και μοίρασαν σε όλους τα δύο ψάρια.42 Kαι έφαγαν όλοι και χόρτασαν.43 Kαι σήκωσαν από τα κομμάτια δώδεκα κοφίνια γεμάτα, και από τα ψάρια.44 Kαι εκείνοι που έφαγαν τα ψωμιά ήσαν 5.000 άνδρες.45 Kαι αμέσως ανάγκασε τους μαθητές του να μπουν μέσα στο πλοίο, και να προηγηθούν στην αντίπερα όχθη κοντά στη Bηθσαϊδά, μέχρις ότου αυτός απολύσει το πλήθος.46 Kαι όταν τους απέλυσε, πήγε στο βουνό να προσευχηθεί.
